Random Thoughts...

1. Eating healthy is a heck of a lot of work. Just thought I'd pass that on...

2. I am seriously getting my butt kicked by a shawl. I knit and knit and knit, and it never gets any bigger. I am beginning to feel like it will never end.

3. How hard is it to stay on track with an English project that involves multiple checkpoints, a mother who is constantly reminding you of your deadlines, and a word processor? ("...when I was a kid we didn't have word processors. We had to scratch our reports in the dirt with sticks, and hope it didn't rain before the teacher looked it over...") The Barrister blew off pretty much everything for the third checkpoint until the night before it was due...

4. I do not care how important it is for you to exercise your independence (or how late you are for the bus, for that matter). If you have forgotten your glasses and your boots are muddy, ASK ME TO GET THEM FOR YOU! I will be scaling Mt. Laundry today, and the last thing I need is to have to clean up a trail of muddy bootprints from the front door up to your room and then the bathroom and then back down again.

5. I should not have decided to get serious about losing weight the same week I am planning to make chocolate-chip-cherry-oatmeal cookies.

6. I need a bonus points program. And they need to be redeemable for yarn. Seriously.

Hi Jazz...

I miss you out here...

I have only one remark for your list...or actually a question...

what do you find hard about eating healthy?

I ask because I simply delight in eating healthy and don't find it difficult and maybe I can help...but I don't know what it is precisely you're finding difficult so I don't know how to address it...

hiya hun, have you checked out SparkPeople.com at all? I've written about the site on my blog before at some point. I've found the community and tools there absolutely indispensable for my own weight loss!

*hugs*

Gianna,
Sorry I haven't been around much...life gets in the way sometimes, ya know? Been real busy with kid stuff and mother-in-law stuff (she's been in hospital again, and is having more surgery soon, and she's in pretty bad shape financially...it's a nightmare!)

I think what I find about eating healthy is a couple of things...one is the effort involved...I think if I was just cooking for me it wouldn't be a problem, but I'm a vegetarian in a family of carnivores, and yes, I'm the chief cook and bottle washer, so I not only have to come up with something healthy for me, but also for the rest of the crew...I don't enjoy cooking as much as I used to because whatever I offer, there's always a slew of comments: I don't like onions, this smells funny, this looks funny, I don't like this, can I have pb&j instead...etc. (The answer to that last one, by the way, is Yes--you're big enough and ugly enough to make it yourself!). Also, I've been having dips in energy level...probably premenopausal stuff, possibly thyroid (I'm keeping an eye on that, getting it checked every few months, but it still gets away from me sometimes), and it's hard to get excited about cooking when you're tired. Most of the convenience food out there either isn't very good for you or is ridiculously expensive, so I make most things from scratch, and use very few processed foods, which takes more time. And since we live on one income, eating out--healthy or not--isn't an option very often. Guess I'm just tired of making the same few meals all the time because that's all they'll eat!

Shiv,
I haven't checked out SparkPeople, but I will have a look. Weight loss, I have found, is about 95% attitude, and mine needs a serious adjustment! I've only got about 14 lbs of Depakote weight left to lost, but I'm finding those last 14 lbs the hardest to get rid of.

Jazz...I'm bed bound and still manage to make food quite often (in 5 minute spurts)

there are ways to simplify stuff with whole unprocessed foods...(the cooking process)

the kids are a variable I don't have to deal with and YEAH I can imagine that might be too much...

in any case I often manage to cook a full meal in 15 minutes...whole, natural, organic...!!

I'll try to share some of my secrets with you soon by email.

I haven't said anything to anyone yet, but i may be entering a medical detox. I can't handle what is happening to me anymore..so it may be a while before I get back to you.
peace.

Recipe tips are always helpful, but you concentrate on getting yourself better before you worry about helping me out! Good luck--I will be thinking of you.

I also have a hard time with the healthy eating. Mainly b/c eating healthy cost a heck of a lot more and with 4 kids and one income its sometimes hard.. another is if I want to eat healthy I end up having to make separate meals b/c hubs refuses to eat that way. He says he doesnt care and he isnt required to change his life.. He is all about fried food which I refuse to cook.. blech..
